Taiwan plans to offer visa exemptions to tourists from South-east Asia, including Vietnam as part of its “pivot south”, said the Central News Agency (CNA).

This is the first step in Taiwan’s mission to expand the scope and diversity of its external economy – a move intended to make it less dependent on China.

At the moment, Vietnamese nationals still need to obtain a visa to Taiwan. And vice versa, Taiwanese citizens still need a valid visa for Vietnam.

To obtain a Vietnam visa, Taiwanese citizens may have two options:

  1. Obtain a Vietnam visa at Vietnam embassy in Taiwan or in a third country;
  2. Obtain a Vietnam visa on arrival for more convenience if they travel to Vietnam by air.
