Phu Ung Temple Festival
Phu Ung Temple festival is annually held from the 11th to the 15th of January (Lunar Calendar) in Phu Ung village, Phu Ung commune, An Thi district, Hung Yen province. The festival is organized to memorize merits of General Pham Ngu Lao, a famous commander of Tran dynasty, who had merits to resist Nguyen-Mong invader. This is one of the great festivals to start the season of festivals in Hung Yen.
The festival is divided into two parts like the ceremony and the festival. The festival part consists of Moc Duc festival (washing items for worshipping and statues), God worshipping ceremony in the New Year’s Eve, the 1st day of the new year with the Spring opening procession ceremony started by the procession of Pham Ngu Lao statue from the village to Phu Ung temple and the custom of Tinh Hue princess statue procession. In addition, the festival part is the outstanding characteristic of the festival with many interesting activities such as wrestling, jumping, etc.
Coming to Phu Ung temple festival, visitors will feel the festival’s air on all the roads cheered with flags and flowers.
